Itinerario

DAY 1 – FROM QUITO TO THE CLOUD FOREST OF MINDO & THE ECUADOR COFFEE REGION

Leaving Quito after sunrise, you descend toward the lush Mindo Cloud Forest, where cool air, soft mist, and birdsong instantly change the pace of the day. Your first stop is at a hummingbird sanctuary where dozens of species hover and shimmer just a few steps from your viewpoint. At the Coffee Farm, the aroma of freshly roasted beans fills the air as you learn about specialty high-altitude coffee and taste it overlooking green rolling hills. In the afternoon, you soar across the canopy on a ziplining adventure—gliding over rivers and treetops wrapped in clouds. Your day closes at Sisakuna Lodge, surrounded by dense vegetation, warm hospitality, and the sounds of the forest settling into the night.

DAY 2 – BIRDWATCHING & FOREST TREK, CHOCOLATE TASTING AND BACK TO QUITO!

At first light, you step into the forest for a birdwatching session—hummingbirds darting like jewels, toucans calling from the canopy, tanagers glowing in the early sun, and, if luck allows, the bright scarlet display of the Andean cock-of-the-rock. After a light break, your guide leads you on a forest trek, revealing medicinal plants, hidden waterfalls, and the delicate ecosystems that define this region. Before leaving Mindo, visit a local chocolate workshop for a bean-to-bar tasting that captures the richness of Ecuadorian cacao. The drive back to Quito or the airport unfolds slowly through green hills, returning by late afternoon.

¿Qué fauna puedo esperar ver?

Mindo is one of Ecuador’s most biodiverse regions, including hummingbirds, tanagers, toucans, and the elusive Andean cock-of-the-rock. You may also spot butterflies, reptiles, frogs, and small mammals. Depending on the season, it’s also possible to see unique orchids and a wide range of cloud-forest insects.

What’s the best season for visiting Mindo?

Mindo is a year-round destination thanks to its mild cloud-forest climate. The drier months (typically June to September) offer sunnier days and are great for outdoor activities like hiking. The wetter months (October to May) bring greener landscapes, more active waterfalls, and excellent bird activity — especially for hummingbirds. No matter when you visit, Mindo’s biodiversity is always impressive.

What should I bring for birdwatching and forest trekking?

Comfortable walking shoes, lightweight layers, and a rain jacket are essential. Bring binoculars, a camera, insect repellent, and a reusable water bottle. A small daypack is useful for carrying personal items during hikes.

Can the tour end directly at the airport?

Yes. We can finish the tour with a direct drop-off at Quito Airport (UIO). Just let us know your flight details in advance so we can schedule the timing comfortably.
