Itinerario

DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN BALTRA & TRANSFER TO ISABELA

The warm, golden breeze of Baltra welcomes you as frigatebirds circle overhead and the volcanic landscape stretches toward the sea. After entry formalities, you cross Santa Cruz for a fresh lunch in Puerto Ayora before the afternoon speedboat carries you across shifting blue waters to quiet Puerto Villamil. A short visit to Flamingo Lagoon adds your first soft wildlife moment before settling into the calm rhythm of island life at your hotel.

DAY 2 – LOS TÚNELES SNORKELING ADVENTURE

Morning light sparkles on the ocean as your boat glides toward Los Túneles, where lava arches shelter shallow turquoise pools filled with turtles, rays, seahorses, and penguins. Snorkeling feels like slipping into another world—clear water, slow currents, and the soft movements of marine life drifting beside you. A short hike and lunch on board round out this beautiful, locally guided 6-hour adventure.

DAY 3 – WETLANDS BIKE TOUR & TINTORERAS ISLET

With the sunrise warming the coast, you bike through the Isabela Wetlands—mangroves, sandy paths, and viewpoints where shorebirds wade in glowing water—before reaching the historic Wall of Tears. After lunch, a small boat carries you to Tintoreras, where white-tip reef sharks glide through emerald channels and marine iguanas rest on black lava. A short walk and a peaceful snorkel close the day with calm, clear water and quiet wildlife encounters.

DAY 4 – SIERRA NEGRA VOLCANO HIKE

Clouds drift low over the highlands as you hike toward Sierra Negra, its immense caldera opening like a dark circle carved by fire. The trail leads onward to Volcán Chico’s colorful lava fields, where fumaroles breathe warm steam and views extend toward neighboring islands. It’s a steady, rewarding 12 km walk guided by specialists who pace the day comfortably and safely, with time to enjoy the living geology beneath your feet.

DAY 5 – BOAT TO SANTA CRUZ, DARWIN CENTER, PRIMICIAS & TRAPICHE

The early speedboat carries you through a soft sunrise before arriving in Santa Cruz, where the Charles Darwin Research Station brings conservation stories to life. After lunch, the highlands reveal deep green forests, lava tunnels, and giant tortoises roaming freely at Primicias. A visit to a traditional Trapiche Farm adds a human touch—fresh sugarcane juice, coffee aromas, and the warm hospitality of local families.

DAY 6 – SEYMOUR NORTH & BACHAS BEACH

A gentle navigation leads you to Seymour North, where blue-footed boobies dance on the trail and frigatebirds soar above land iguanas sunning on warm rocks. After lunch on board, you reach Bachas Beach—pink-tinged sand, flamingos in shallow lagoons, and snorkeling spots filled with sea turtles and playful reef fish. It’s an 8-hour journey filled with wildlife at every turn.

DAY 7 – PINZÓN ISLAND & LA FE BAY

The sea glows rich blue as you approach Pinzón, home to some of the archipelago’s clearest snorkeling waters. Sea lions twirl beside you, turtles glide quietly through the reefs, and rays move like shadows across the sand. After a relaxed lunch on board, you drift toward the calm cove of La Fe Bay for a second snorkel or easy beach time before returning to Puerto Ayora.

DAY 8 – SAN CRISTÓBAL, LA LOBERIA & TIJERETAS

The early boat carries you toward San Cristóbal, where you check in before visiting La Lobería—sea lions lounging on warm rocks, marine iguanas basking in the sun, and waves breaking softly along the coast. After lunch, Tijeretas Hill invites you to climb toward sweeping ocean views, followed by a visit to Darwin Bay for bird colonies, turquoise water, and a refreshing snorkel.

DAY 9 – KICKER ROCK SNORKELING

Sunrise paints the coastline as your boat heads toward Kicker Rock, two towering cliffs rising dramatically from the sea. Snorkeling between them feels surreal—schools of fish swirl in shifting light, Galapagos sharks pass calmly below, and, in the right season, hammerheads drift through the blue. A beach stop and lunch on board add warmth and rest before returning to town in the afternoon.

DAY 10 – GOODBYE GALAPAGOS

A peaceful morning transfer takes you to San Cristóbal Airport, passing coastal views and the soft sounds of the island waking up. It’s a gentle farewell—sea lions on the rocks, frigatebirds overhead, and the quiet satisfaction of having explored the archipelago with time, intention, and care.

Faqs

How is the travel style on the Galapagos island-hopping trips?

The itineraries are designed as active expeditions on a flexible independent travel basis, which means that in some activities, other Takiri travelers might join you, while in others, you’ll have private guided tours. You’ll always have someone to assist you throughout the islands.

Are there any specific requirements for the Galapagos flights?

You can book your flights to start your trip on any date of your preference. We strongly recommend arriving at Baltra airport (GPS airport code) by 11:30 am (or less), and departing after 12:30 pm from the same airport for a better and smoother experience.

What are the accommodations included?

On these expeditions, you will stay in family-run hotels such as the Cally Hotel in Isabela Island and the Lava House Hotel in Santa Cruz. You will have private rooms with ensuite bathrooms, hot water, air conditioning, and wifi. You can find more info here: Our Hotels In Galapagos (link to the blog).

Do you offer customized tours?

Yes, all our itineraries can be personalized up to your preferences and budget. Whether you want to upgrade your accommodations, extend your stay, or combine it with tours in Ecuador’s mainland or the Amazon. You just need to contact us, and we’ll put together a trip for you.

¿Qué fauna puedo esperar ver?

This itinerary focuses on wildlife spotting, like giant tortoises, marine iguanas, yellow land iguanas, blue-footed boobies, frigatebirds, Darwin’s finches, sea lions, sea turtles, reef sharks, and Galapagos penguins. Our itineraries are crafted to bring you close to the islands’ natural wonders, but wildlife is unpredictable—so while we maximize opportunities, specific sightings can’t be guaranteed.

Is this itinerary good for families with kids?

Yes, the flexible travel style allows families with kids to make the most of their trip. These expeditions offer a balanced pace between moderate-level activities and some free time to rest and relax. For families with children younger than 6 years old, we suggest contacting us directly to craft a personalized tour.

What’s the best season for visiting the Galapagos?

The Galapagos Islands are an all-year-round destination with amazing wildlife in every month. High season typically runs from March–April, June–September, and December–January; the rest of the year is lower season with fewer visitors. From December–May, expect warmer weather and calmer seas; June–November brings cooler, drier conditions with nutrient-rich waters. Average temperatures range from the 70s–80s°F (21–30°C) year-round.

Are the speedboat rides comfortable?

The speedboat rides (2.5 hours approx) have upgraded their services since 2021; you can now have your own seat (so it’s less bumpy) and satellite internet. Most travelers take motion sickness pills when navigating, or you can take a small interisland plane (contact us for prices).

What makes a land-based itinerary different from a cruise?

A land-based itinerary lets you stay on the islands, explore at your own pace, and enjoy local culture, restaurants, and flexible daily activities. Cruises follow fixed routes and offer access to more remote islands, but with less schedule flexibility. Both offer excellent wildlife encounters—just in different styles. You can find more info here: Island Hopping vs Cruising the Galapagos Islands.
