Itinerario

FULL DAY – CAYAMBE BISCOCHOS, OTAVALO MARKET & PEGUCHE WATERFALL

Your day begins around 8:00 am as you leave Quito and ascend toward the highlands of Imbabura Province, where cool breezes and wide-open vistas frame the road. Your first stop is in Cayambe to taste freshly baked biscochos—delicate Andean biscuits served warm with local cheese and dulce de leche. It’s a beloved tradition of the region and a delicious start to the day.

Continuing north, you arrive in Otavalo, home to the largest Indigenous market in South America. Here, the plaza comes alive with vibrant textiles, handwoven blankets, carved instruments, organic soaps, jewelry, leatherwork, and colorful Andean designs. As you wander through the stalls, you’ll have the chance to meet Kichwa artisans who preserve ancient techniques through their craft.

Around midday, enjoy lunch at a local traditional restaurant overlooking San Pablo Lake, its deep blue waters reflecting the imposing Imbabura Volcano. In the afternoon, visit Peguche Waterfall, a sacred site for the Kichwa community. A gentle walk through eucalyptus forest leads to the falls, where the sound of rushing water and the cool mist create a peaceful end to the day. Afterward, begin the scenic 2-hour drive back to Quito, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
